South Congress (SoCo)

Area Overview

South Congress Street, which crosses the Colorado River into South Austin, is a popular tourist destination for tourists visiting Austin, Texas. The South Congress neighborhood is possibly the best example of Austinites’ appreciation for ethnic variety. Communities in and around St. Edward’s University and the nearby Dawson and Travis Heights neighborhoods are all part of South Congress. They are also cultural landmarks that showcase the city’s unique character and attract those who are interested in the Keep It Weird campaign. This is a place to live and visit for a variety of service shops, food trucks, restaurants, and apartments and condominiums are mixed in with the more traditional housing types seen in Texas, such as ranches, craftsman, bungalows, and even the recently built industrial-style residences.
