Area Overview
Across Town Lake (also known as Lady Bird Lake) to the south, you’ll discover a laid-back, diverse scene. South Austin has wonderful neighborhoods with a strong sense of community. South Congress, sometimes known as SoCo, is one of the hippest neighborhoods in town. Home Slice Pizza, Jo’s coffee, the Continental Club, Uncommon Objects, and the San Jose Hotel are just a few of the eateries and shops that populate the neighborhood. The stores here aren’t the megamall variety. As a result, local businesses now provide discounts, sales, and other promotions every month on the first Thursday of the month, creating a kind of block party. It’s also a great opportunity to have some fun while exploring the area.
